Objectives

With Spin Master's recent acquisition of the official Monster Jam Monster Truck license, it was paramount for the new toy line to smash into the market and position Walmart as THE retailer to pick up all the new and exciting Monster Jam toys. To do so, we not only needed to break through the general clutter of the toy category, but we also needed to differentiate ourselves from competitors whose products closely resemble our new line. To accomplish these objectives, we went to market with a show-stopping dump bin solution that revved the engine on sales and helped crush the competition!

How were the objectives met?

Out-of-aisle display is king in the toy category, especially when launching a new product. Knowing we needed to go big with our debut display, we developed a high-end dump bin that not only brought the spirit of the Monster Jam brand to store but also gave us the holding power needed to put plenty of product on the floor to ensure a successful launch. Our dump bin created a truly experiential display by playing to multiple senses in-store. Flashing lights captured attention. Moving monster truck tires and real sound bites from the Monster Jam Monster Truck series engaged the shopper long enough to explore the product and therefore close the sale. This sight/sound/motion accompanied by the iconic Grave Digger truck screamed to fans and shoppers that there was a new king in the toy truck arena. New toy line launches are a BIG deal, and the Walmart Monster Jam dump bin helped ensure an overwhelming success!

Our high-impact design helped secure 1,600 Walmart doors for the initial run of the display and ensured we would have sufficient inventory to support the excitement around the launch. Our display saw fantastic sell-through rates and prompted immediate orders on additional merchandising placements, including anniversarying the display in all doors in 2020! The success of both the execution AND sales positioned our dump bin as the benchmark for the brand and has since been recreated across multiple retailers.
