Objectives
POPAI Hungary announced a design competition for young Industrial Design Engineering students. The objective was to create and design a Zewa sustainable display. Students had to use materials, solutions that are sustainable and the communication itself had to be about sustainability. It was possible to place either Zewa products (toilet papers, handkerchiefs, household towels) on the display. Essity provided the Zewa sustainability key visual and also the eco labels that Zewa uses: FSC certificate and 100% recyclable packaging logos.
During the designing of the display the obligatory technical parameters (e.g. size of the display) and Zewa brand visuals and guidelines had to be considered.
How were the objectives met?
My main thought was the following: most long-lasting (usually wooden) product displays are not suitable for occasional campaigns and promotions, but regular cardboard displays are usually not durable enough to withstand daily use for an extended period of time, making their eco-friendliness questionable in my eye. My goal was to blend the advantages of these two categories into one product, with the least possible shortcomings.
In a broader sense, my intention was to create a product that is truly sustainable / eco-friendly, is made from recycled material (preferably wood waste), is long-lasting and durable, and can be assembled by a shop assistant in less than a few minutes. It should also have large storage compartments, should be eye-catching, innovative, and easily recognizable for the customers. It needs to motivate them to get to know and try the products that are stored in it.
But is it possible to compress all these advantages into one product display? I believe it is, the ZEWA Eco Modular Display does fulfil all the requirements mentioned above.
